Program Sessions:

  • Session 1: Precast Technology – Advanced Architectural Stone

Presenter: Cy Young, Senior Project Manager, Advanced Architectural Stone
Overview of the technologies and systems used by Advanced Architectural Stone that has capability of producing over 2000 cubic ft. of cast stone per day. During this session you will be provided an overview of how Advanced utilizes technology to create efficiencies and ensure quality in their high volume plant. Items covered will include use of AutoCAD for ticketing, barcoding process, and job tracking.

  • Session 2: Precast Technology – Arban and Carosi

Presenter: Joe Barron, President, Barron Systems Integration
Arban and Carosi is one of the nation’s largest architectural precast producers with 50,000 square feet of production space. Arban and Carosi has merged the time-honored traditions of craftsmanship with modern advances in production to ensure the best product for their customers. During this session, participants will learn from Joseph Barron (Barron System Integration, Inc.) the designer and developer of SchedCast (Arban & Carosi’s internal ERP system.) Over the last 20 years, our team has worked with BSI to integrate a set of custom applications and Commercial Off-the-Shelf tools to support our operations. Mr. Barron will provide a detailed account of how a simple production database has evolved into a complete cradle-to-grave process solution, tailored to meet the needs of the organization. Learn the good and the bad of how it is being developed, the methodologies employed, tools utilized, improvements and challenges faced along the way.

  • Session 3: Use of Scanning, Digitization and C&C Machining

Presenter: Lance Lewis, Johnson County Foam
As they say in the technology world, "garbage-in garbage-out." To eliminate that variability, Johnson County Foam (JCF), one of the nation’s largest foam fabricators, has built a state of the art, computer controlled facility. Lance will provide an overview of the scanning and digitization process used at JCF to improve accuracy, save time and eliminate waste. The session is a prelude to the tour of JCF’s facility that will take place on Monday (4/30/18).

  • Session 4: OSHA Crystalline Silica Rule Implementation for Precasters

Presenter: Bryan Seal, MS, CIH, CHMM, REHS, & Managing Principal Contemporary Industrial Hygiene Consultant
This is a practical, hands-on presentation to develop your knowledge of and responsibilities toward silica exposure. The presentation develops the competent person’s ability to assess their workplace for silica hazards. Attendees will create a basic exposure control plan including requirements for employee training, and medical surveillance. The course overviews how and when you can and should reach out to get more advanced help.

  • Session 5: This is Not Your Father's Precast Plant     

Presenter: Jay Newton Simem America
Around the globe concrete manufacturers are designing and manufacturing precast concrete using automated carousel production systems. While these systems are becoming the norm globally, their implementation is not as frequent in the U.S. This session will provide attendees with an overview of the design this automation technology; how to evaluate its practical application; and, how to invest in stages and manage the implementation process should a producer wish to adopt it.
